2022 SWISH 2 SUCCESS CAMP

Our annual Swish 2 Success basketball camp returned to MLCHS on July 15 for the 5th year. This one-day free camp brought in approximately 175 kids from Shelbyville and surrounding counties. We returned to our original structure of one session with the little kids (6-10) working upstairs and the big kids (11-16) downstairs. Both groups got in quality work, but we wanted to offer more structure and learning to the big kids and a chance to really work on their game and to leave with the feeling that they learned some skills to take their game to the next level.

Motivational speaker, Tiffani Foster, got the kids energized and hyped for the day. This really set the tone and prepared the kids for a day full of learning but also fun. We started everyone off with a quick warm-up and then split them up into their respective age groups for drills where they worked on their individual skills along with group dribbling, passing, and shooting drills that used cones or chairs as obstacles. We also did some shooting contests at various spots on the court which was a great way for them to get more competitive while still working on their skills at the same time. Of course, we had our annual dance contest where campers get to show off their best dance moves. Afterward, campers were split up into teams based on age group size and played games where they were able to show off what they had learned during camp while having fun doing it!

This year was extra special as we had our first NBA player guest: Jeremy Evans, 2012 NBA Slam Dunk champion and former player for the Jazz, Mavericks & Pacers. Campers got to ask him questions and learn from his experiences in the professional league. We also had some of the top high school players coach campers too!

Campers were able to learn from the best at their age. They got an opportunity to work on their basketball skills in a fun environment while learning new things about themselves and the others around them.

This year, we were lucky enough to have the support of Hometown Pizza of Shelbyville, which provided lunch for our campers, coaches, volunteers, and parents. We can’t believe this was our fifth annual camp… this wouldn’t be possible without our sponsors, coaches, volunteers, and most importantly our campers and their parents!

We look forward to growing this event each year and making it better.

3rd Annual Back 2 School Bash
3nd ANNUAL BACK 2 SCHOOL BASH

Our 3rd annual Back 2 School season was better than we could have imagined. We continued our partnership with Clay Street Baptist Church to serve the community of Martinsville. This event is always like a neighborhood cookout with members of the community coming and hanging out in fellowship. Painted Stone Elementary and Marnel C Moorman had us back at their Back to School Nights where the kiddos come to meet their teachers and see their new classroms. For our community wide Back 2 School Bash, we had to move it indoors, but the rain didnt stop us. We were able to move the bouncy house indoors, have a real court for basketball games, face painting, and grill out while we handed out book bags filled with supplies. We want to thank HJW Financial Literacy and the Shelby County Police Department for stopping by to hang out with us. With generous contributions from our sponsors, we were able to purchase and fill 600 book bags for our youth to have a successful school year! We are so thrilled to be partnering with the schools in the community to ensure the youth of Shelbyville are equipped with the tools necessary for a great school year!
