2019 SWISH 2 SUCCESS SLAUGHTER ELITE CAMP

The return of the annual Swish 2 Success Slaughter Elite Camp brought out 150 youth from Shelbyville and surrounding areas. Subsequent to leading his team to a French National Championship, AJ Slaughter hosted this free one-day event with the help of other professional athletes and former college basketball players serving as coaches. Campers participated in skills development, practiced fundamentals of basketball, performed in a friendly dance battle with each other and heeded advice from the coaches on how basketball has impacted their lives.

Second annual camp leaves Slaughter dreaming of more

Coming off of a French National Championship with France 24 – owned by former San Antonio Spurs great Tony Parker – and getting the Polish National Team qualified for the World Basketball Games in China later in August, Shelbyville native and former Shelby County Rocket standout AJ Slaughter returned home to host his second annual Swish2Success Slaughter Elite Camp with his fiancéand founder Anna Persaud.

Swish2Success is a basketball camp that looks to empower children and aid them in growing on the court and in the classroom. It is free of charge for the children not only in Shelbyville, but also across the state.

Slaughter says it is a big deal for him to be able to come home to the community in which he grew up in, to give back to the children.

“It’s fun for me personally, I have a great time coming back home to the community that raised me,” he said. “I went to middle and high school here, and I built up a pretty good career. To be able to come back home and give back to some of these kids without the charges is a big thing for me and my team.”

Former WKU basketball player hosts free camp for kids

SHELBYVILLE, Ky. —

Former Western Kentucky University basketball player A.J. Slaughter hosted a free camp for kids Saturday at Martha Layne Collins High School.

Around 120 kids were at the camp, learning valuable basketball skills from Slaughter and his volunteers.

Slaughter is the co-founder of the Swish 2 Success foundation, whose mission is to provide "children with access to pertinent tools and opportunities to help each member reach their maximum potential by way of sports and education as vehicles to achieve their dreams," according to the foundation's website.
